In Her Honour – Mary Jane

We are thrilled to announce the winner of our In Her Honour contest: Mary Jane Rossi!

Mary Jane was nominated by her son, Renato, who describes her as selfless, strong, and exemplary.

After working as an elementary school teacher and principal for 35 years, Mary Jane has been retired for two years, but has now returned to work to help out during this particularly challenging time. She now serves as the online principal for virtual learning. She says she misses the children dearly, but is glad that she can still go into the classroom and at least see them virtually. “Kids aren’t used to this, but are coping well!” she shares. “Parents are doing the best they can to provide their children with support. We just have to keep telling ourselves that it’s going to get better, and we’re all in this together.”

We are grateful to Mary Jane for setting the selfless example and stepping up to serve in this way. And we recognize that heroism is also found close at home. In addition to her work with the school board, Mary Jane cooks for elderly family members, and is always available to provide transportation for any family member when needed.

We asked Mary Jane: what’s one piece of advice you’d like to share with the world?

“I’ve been an educator for over 35 years, and one thing that I have always been very passionate about is special needs students. In fact, the motto of our school board is “Each Belongs.” What I’d like every person to know is that, no matter what abilities or disabilities you have, you can meet your goals, at any time in your life, with perseverance. I’ve always told my children to pursue whatever path they desired, and to remember that they must choose what gives them the joy and motivation to get out of bed each day.”

Indeed, this value is demonstrated by the very words of her son. When asked to describe one thing Mary Jane has done to impact his life, his response was “She has given me the safety net to try new things, take risks and create my own path with the utmost support. My Mom deserves everything in this world and I only hope to make her proud!”

It is with gratitude and admiration that we have crafted Mary Jane’s Blend, an herbal loose leaf blend.

Mary Jane always enjoys her tea as a way to relax at the end of the day, so we crafted a caffeine-free blend with camomile. There are also lots of vitamin C elements (rosehip, hibiscus, and lemon peel), for an extra immune boost for the essential work she does each day. The flavour profile is raspberry lemonade, which is bright and cheery, like Mary Jane’s positive approach to life. And of course we had to include several colourful elements, such as the butterfly blue pea flowers, which help to form a rich infusion of purple, Mary Jane’s favourite colour.

Our focus is to deliver positivity through our specially-curated monthly blends. If you’d like to share in the tea happiness, then sign up for your box of premium loose leaf tea today!
